Akagi's dream is to enter the IH school competition. But now, his dream is to win the IH competition! He is the brother of Haruko even though they don't look a bit alike. Akagi is the Team Captain of Shohoku Team. He is a very determined person. Although he doesn't score much in the looks department, he is the main support for the Shohoku team.

He challenged Sakuragi to a basketball game. After his embarassing incident, he uses evey excuses possible to not let Sakuragi in the team. Eventually he was impressed by Sakuragi's determination.

He is invited to join the ever so famous Fukusawa Sports University by the famous basketball player Sugiyama and the Coach Karasawa. They said that Akagi's the best center in the Kanagawa district. Akagi is chosen for one of the 5 star players in Kanagawa district.

Aside from being a skilful basketball player, Akagi is also a very intelligent student. He doesn't shine much during Shoyo match. He injured his ankle when playing against Kainan and yet that didn't stop him from playing very hard to win. When Ayako forbid him to play because it would make his ankle worse, Akagi told her that he didn't care if he can't walk, as long as he can play. Seize the moment. Even though they didn't win, Akagi didn't scold Sakuragi for it.

Akagi is a very good leader as he can lead his team to success, winning against Ryonan and capable of training the team when Anzai Sensei is not around. But he did encounter a few problems related with his ankle. He had to compete with Uozomi of Ryonan who is almost the same level as he is. He always thinks first before he acts although it's not always in Sakuragi's case. He has a very good sportsmanship. He wasn't always the perfect player, mind you. He was clumsy with the ball back in his first year. But his height is one of his advantages when playing. At the end, Akagi left the Shohoku team to pursuit a higher education level.
