Anzai Mitsuyoshi Sensei

Anzai Sensei first appeared when he was bumped by 3 fans of Rukawa. Then Sakuragi thought he was just some old man and started pulling his double chin and his tummy. Akagi knocked Sakuragi on the head for that. Anzai Sensei looks like Colonel Sanders, eh? That's what the Ryonan Team said.

Actually Anzai Sensei used to be a state player. He then became a coach for a local university. They called him 'The white haired monster' (?) because he was so strict. Then after a tragic incident with one of his ex-players, he changed to the lovable Anzai Sensei in Shohoku. The incident was, he was partically strict with one of his player that he had his eyes set on to be a great player someday, Yasawa. One day, Yasawa ran to the States and became a basketball player. Not a good basketball player, but just a basketball player. Then, suddenly, Anzai Sensei read the newspaper to found out that Yasawa died in an accident and drugs were involved.Anzai Sensei received an unsent letter from Yasawa which he wrote how he wished to be back in Japan and strengthen his skills first before going to the States. [He told Rukawa the same thing] That's the point when Anzai Sensei quit university coaching and went to coach Shohoku Team.

Anzai Sensei is a very good and experienced coach. During the match with Kainan, he ordered that Maki is to be guarded by 4 of the team and Sakuragi haad to take care of Jin. What an order! And he had a severe heart attack while teaching Sakuragi the basics. Well.. at first Akagi, Ayako and Kogure thought Anzai Sensei was gone but false alarm. Anzai Sensei wasn't present during Shohoku's match against Ryonan. When Shohoku manage to went to the IH competition, Anzai Sensei sudenly give quick orders to attack the opponent. He is usually calm and studies the enviroment before giving orders, though. But he helps Shohoku in so many ways. He helped Mitsui overcome his downfall, helped Sakuragi's skills, prevent Rukawa from making a big mistake, helped Miyagi & Akagi overcome their fear, etc...etc..
