![]() | ![]() | ![]() | ![]() | ![]() | ![]() | General Information This is going to be a brief explanation on Slamdunk. O_o I'm not very good at this so bear with me.. *^^* . 'Slamdunk' revolves around a first year deliquent student in Shohoku school, Sakuragi Hanamichi . He has been rejected by 50 girls ever since he was in middle school. Then, he met Haruko who asked him if he liked basketball as he is very tall. Ahh.. that was the starting of a beautiful relationship for Sakuragi. He joined the Shohoku Basketball team to.. well.. please Haruko not knowing that she had an infatuation on Rukawa Kaede, also a first year student. Before that, he got into a fight with Rukawa to teach Rukawa not to be rude with Haruko. And they both hated each other's guts ever since. Rukawa is a very talented and experienced player. Sakuragi.. well.. he's new to Basketball. When he joined the Basketball team, almost everyday during practice, he'd argue with Akagi Takenori, the Team Captain also brother of Haruko. This was because, Sakuragi didn't get a chance to slamdunk and always had to practice the basics, hour after hour, day after day...(plus being hit by Ayako's paper fan is quite annoying sometimes) Shohoku's basketball team became even stronger when Ryota Miyagi came back from the hospital. It seems as he's fighting with the seniors, lead by Mitsui Hisashi. Trouble brewed ahead when the whole team got into the fight along with outsiders that Mitsui had invited along. Mitsui then confessed to Anzai Sensei that he wanted to play basketball again. Two more new players joined the Shohoku's team! Shohoku faces a lot of challenges during every match. What I like about Slamdunk is.. you don't know whether Shohoku's going to win or lose. Shohoku, now for the first time manages to enter the Inter High competition against major high schools in japan. With that, they had to face some of the most toughest teams ever. Shoyo, Ryonan, Kainan, Toyotama, Sannoh ..etc..etc..
Slamdunk provides a lot of laughter and suspense. It's mainly about Sakuragi, but also very informative on basketball.
There's even sadness and touching moments. Hentai ? Nope. It's quite unpredictable and every game Shohoku face makes you wonder... are they going to win ??
The art is so neat and very good and in details. Character designs suits each character..(although I can't help to wonder how Akagi can be Haruko's brother). Overall layout are breathtaking. The story is enticing, vivid and addictive. It is also a very good in introducing basketball to unknowns. Inoue Takehiko is really talented. *o*
To me it's a shonen manga with a little hint of romance in it.
But anyway, if you want an all round manga. This is definitely it !
My rating :
Character designs : 5/5 -----------------------------------------------------------
TV Series
Good parts. It follows the manga storyline very closely. The seiyuu for Ayako (Hara Eriko) , Akagi (Yanada Kinoyuki), Sendoh (Ohtsuka Yoshitada), and the hero Sakuragi (Kusao Takeshi) are good. (Also to Miyagi's and Fukuda's Seiyuu). You also get to watch your fave character and manga in action !!
Bad parts. Waahh... it is so boring to watch... u_u .. For every match it must take around 20 episodes ?? [maybe I'm just impatient] It has too much repeats of a scene, slow motion, and it's very long. The extra episodes are unnecessary as it only slows down the storyline. It also takes the focus off Sakuragi, who is the main character. Ryu vs Tetsuo (ugh), Oda and Yoko (movie characters). [Okay, so I do like it when Shohoku vs Ryonan + Shoyo match :P]
I do like H. Midorikawa, but as Rukawa... (maybe I'm just biased here, so we'll leave it as it is). Hiramatsu Akiko who does Haruko's voice is sometimes annoying. I wish that she voiced Haruko just like she voiced Miyuki (You Are Under Arrest!). I thought that Okiayu Ryoutarou who does Mitsui didn't suited each other. ^^;; (Maybe because of thinks link. Mitsui > Mamarlade Boy; Yuu ??). Boy, I have a lot to complain about the seiyuu... (and I also wish that Fujima have Kikuchi Masami as his voice... n_n). Of course these are to my preferences only. I don't know about you.
Well, I won't complain about the quality because it was done back in 1994/95 so it was fine with me. But this is my opinion only. I wouldn't recommend you to follow my opinion. It wouldn't hurt if you watch it. Some episodes are nice. It takes a long, long, long time to finish one match but if you are totally absorbed in it then it's okay. Anyway, I would recommend the manga than the tv series. ~owari~ |
